"Agar Plate-Based Screening Approach for the Identification of Enzyme-Catalyzed Oxidations" was published in Chemieingenieurtechnik

Biocatalytic oxidation reactions are in high demand. Among applied enzymes, the subfamily of nonspecific peroxygenases (UPOs), which requires hydrogen peroxide as a co-substrate and oxidant, has attracted much interest. Nearly two decades after their initial description, thousands of putative UPO sequences can be found in databases, but few enzymes have been characterized. To fill this gap, efficient screening methods for the identification of new UPOs are needed. Here, we present a new screening strategy based on the cultivation of wild-type fungi. The identification of a promising candidate strain highlights the applicability of this approach.
